How much is a used carbon fiber violin worth?
What is the going rate for a *used* Luis and Clark carbon fiber violin in decent condition? Someone is offering me one, but I have no idea what a fair price would be. I've only seen 2 used ones listed for sale for around $5000, but don't know if they ever actually sold at those prices. They go for about $5500 new. Violin dealers generally scoff at them as having no resale value at all since they haven't gained widespread acceptance in the violin playing community. What is a good price for one of these?
As with anything else, it's worth what you are willing to pay for it.
Since the instruments hold up up very well, being made of carbon fiber, a price that is 10% less than if purchased new sounds like a fair asking price -- especially since others have asked the same.
But what you are willing to pay for it, and what the seller is willing to accept remains to be seen.
If you aren't comfortable making an offer for perhaps 10% less than what is asked, other ways to sweeten the deal are to ask if a case of bow can be included.
