How can you clean a violin?

I just got a violin from my school, it's very old and beaten up and has rosin residue everywhere, also residue from the tapes that the last person put on it (I peeled them off). How can I clean it? It's not a valuable violin, though I don't want to completely ruin it. I also can't really go buy any special products, I have Murphy's wood soap and polish, etc.

okay for the violin just take everything apart (including the strings and shoulder/chin rest/bridge etc) and
get some polish and a very soft cloth (if you use an okay one it will scratch your violin) and rub the entire violin. It should get all of the dirt off. If you don't have polish
