How can I convince my parents to let me play the cello?
Over the past couple months, I've been listening a lot to Kanon Wakeshima (you can look up her Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanon_Wakeshima ). She's a singer/cello player.
She's inspired me to start playing cello - Before you start to question whether I'll stay with it, I'll have you know that music is what I live for. (: - that aside, I have experience witha violin, and with the piano, I have a great love for instruments.
The sound of the cello can be dark and mysterious, or lighthearted and airy. I absolutely love it.
How can I convince my parents to let me get lessons? Any help is greatly appreciated. ♥
Instruments I play:
Piano
Flute
Baritone Euphonium
Guitar
First, I must tell you that you have excellent choice in music! If you really want to plan an instrument you need to show that you really want to play it. If you really want something you can have it, whatever that thing is. If it is a matter of convincing your parents of your potential new found hobby, I would suggest that showing more responsibility at home and doing your best at school would be a first.
Is it possible to use a cello that your school owns? I really wanted to play a bari sax when I was in school but my parents couldn't afford that, so I played one that was owned by the school. Also, if it comes down to your parents saying that they "can't afford lessons" you can always learn on your own by befriending someone who plays the cello who has an interest in learning something you know (this is how I learned to play a clarinet). Or you could spend your free time during lunch practicing with a cello at school on your lunch break (that is how I learned to play a piano).
If you really do love music as much as it sounds like you do, nothing will stop you from learning to play an instrument but your own limitations. Good luck!
