Is it hard learning where the notes are located on the violin?
I play the piano very well and have been playing for seven years. Since I already know how to read music, will learning the notes on the violin and the bowing techniques and how to play a violin well be hard? I am interested in learning and taking up the violin. Thanks.
Naw, even little kids learn to do it.
If you are older, and have decent pitch sensitivity, your ear will help you learn and secure that placement much more quickly.
The rest (since I see you play piano - you will understand this...), comes down to repetition and "muscle memory" (actors call it 'sense' memory.')
If you are older, too, you can be more self-conscious about how crude you sound / and it feels like, at the onset. If you let that stop you, nothing happens. Any beginner at any age is a beginner, and should accept that without embarrassment.
Piano bound for my entire life, I have very few regrets, but I do regret the number of earlier presented opportunities not seized to learn a wind and / or string instrument - at least to get a hands-on familiarity with the basics of playing them. So... I'd very much advocate your 'going for it."
Best regards.
