Adult violin self teaching.....?
Need a violin training method to start as an adult.
I played violin as a child for a solid 5 years (5 - 10 yrs old) and put it down, dabbled in other instruments on and off and not 20 years later ive decided to pick it back up, I picked up an el cheapo ebay violin and it took me all of 15 minutes to get my angles, posture, and technique but the ability to strike a solid note is far gone let alone pumping a song out. Suzuki method seems to be a little too orientated to children from what i understand so is that still the best bet or is there a better method?
I did Suzuki starting at age 23, but with a teacher, and I already read music. So basically we were just using the music, not the technique. As for getting a good note out, it might just be the violin - much of the stuff on eBay is crap and unlikely to do much for you besides frustrate you. You could have rented a much better violin for less than you paid for that - still could, so consider that. And also very strongly consider getting a teacher, at least for a few lessons - it's far too easy to let yourself move on before a teacher would tell you you're ready, and to ignore things like intonation and bowing.
