If you get new violin rosin, do you really have to scratch it up with a key?
I can't remember if I scratched my last rosin with a key, but I think my orchestra teacher told our class that we shouldn't. Well, I can't remember and I need answers!
it's really personal preference.
and what kind of rosin it is.
if's it high end stuff on already rosined bow hair, you don't have to scratch it.
if it's low end (less than 8 dollars) then scratch it.
If it's high end rosin and you have brand new bow hair, scratch it. they cratch will come out eventually.
btw, just use the nut/screw of the violin bow to scratch it. works just as well, and doesn't go too deep.
