VIOLIN EXPERTS: Approximately how much will this violin cost to fix? (pics)?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/32907958@N02/?saved=1
Please don't say, "it depends...", I need an approximate number. Also, is this a good violin that is worth fixing?
No, I need this fixed because I am a violinist and want to play it, not sell it.
you are definitely going to need to fix that. well how long has the bridge been like that? thats a big no no, as the bridge affects the soundpost position, so you may need to get a new bridge if its been off for a long time. a new bridge costs about from 40 to like 120 dollars, quite possibly more depending on if you want a student bridge of minimal quality wood or a professional one. a student bridge costs about maybe 40 dollars but most likely 60 dollars plus the cost of re adjusting the sound post to get the best sound which is about maybe 10 to 14 dollars. im not sure how much it will cost to get the finger board put back on, but it cant be too expensive because its just labor and the cost of glue so im thinking about 20 dollars. you do the math because i dont know what you want to get done, but the fingerboard is your number one priority. you can still play with your bridge and sound post out of sync, it just wont sound its best. oh its FREE to put the bridge back on, because you can do it yourself, but a luthier can do it for you for optimal results, also scratches are apart of playing a violin, if you want to get it re varnished, its gonna cost you, but it doesnt really affect the violin itself.
Im not sure as to the authenticity of that "Amati" violin. Amati violins are the oldest violins made from the masters of Italy, but most likely its a copy. Master violins themselves vary in quality, no less copies, so you could take a gamble, obviously you can get it fixed, but it might be crappy, but then again it might be really good. I DEPENDS, because looks mean nothing to the quality of the violin, what we hear determines it, and obviously you have to fix the fingerboard in order to play it, and thus hear it.
