The Icon Lives On In Vinyl - Frank Sinatra
Frank Sinatra was mentioned by various names in his heyday, and though he is best recognized for his voice, he was also a reputable thespian and an icon. In 1954, Frankie even won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 'From Here to Eternity'. Coming into the world on December 12th, 1915 in Hoboken, New Jersey, Francis Albert Sinatra did not finish high school and never learned how to read music, but was still able to grow into one of the most cherished performers in entertainment.
An orchestra is made out of four sections - brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings. Most marching bands leave out the string section out, but for the most part utilizes the same instruments as a full orchestra.
While singing at the Copacabana in 1950, Sinatra suffered hemorrhaging in his vocal cords and feared that it would be the end of his run. Sinatra was able to come to his senses following a failed suicide attempt, and in shorter than a year's time, he made his mark in Las Vegas at the Desert Inn.
The Woodwind Section
Woodwinds include the flute, the clarinet, the oboe and the bassoon. Depending on the size of the orchestra, there can be up to four of each instrument being played. Each woodwind is played by blowing into them and fingering different holes to produce a different sound. Most of these instruments are made with wood.
Flutes can be made either with wood or metal, though those used in an orchestra are usually made of metal. While it can technically be classified as a brass instrument, it is still closer to woodwinds. Flutes are blown from the side of the instrument rather than the end of the instrument and it produces a high, clear sound. The sound itself can either be piercing or extremely gentle. Bands usually use a piccolo rather than a flute.
Acoustic & Acoustic-Electric
Much like guitars, basses have their own acoustic models that do not require a cable or bass amp to produce sound. All that is needed for these specific types of basses is simply playing. The sound is produced by the vibrations made from playing echoing through the body of the bass and then resonating out of the large hole in the front of the bass's body, the sound hole.
Acoustic-Electric basses are an even rarer form of basses that can produce sound with or without an amp. They are almost identical to acoustic basses in size, shape and look and like an acoustic basses they can make sound merely by being played.
However, unlike acoustic basses acoustic-electrics can act like electric basses and be plugged into and be played.
Beginner Kits
Basses like guitars can end up getting pretty pricey. High end bass companies like Fodera, Warwick, and Ritter can create basses that can go into thousand dollar range. There are though several beginner kits that typically only cost a couple hundred dollars.
