how do you do the finger scales for the violin?

i left the violin for about 8 years, but now my grandmas making me take it up again. im also trying to avoid hiring a private tutor, since my family's tite on $$$. how do you do the finger scales for the violin? i mean, how far do you put your fingers apart? im not talking about flats and stuff, but just the regular, basic scale.
if there is a video online, or perhaps youtube,that you would like to share with me, i would REALLY appreciate it.
oh yeah, i did try the online violin charts, but they do not helo much
by "helo" i meant "help"
