Used strings on a violin?
I'm in no position to buy new strings right now, and my E is very, very close to breaking. I've a set of used Pirastro Evah Pirazzis that were in the plastic tube (string tube?) in my case when I bought it. I normally use Thomastik Dominants, since they are cheaper, and my violin isn't exactly expensive. I'm just worried about the stress on my bridge and my instrument. Would it damage my violin to use the E from the Pirastro set as a replacement for the one I use right now?
It's okay to use in a pinch, but a used string isn't going to last very long and if it's been sitting around for a while probably won't sound that good.
Mixing different brands of strings won't damage the instrument. I have sometimes had three different brands on at once.
