How do you teach a child to hold a violin bow correctly?
I can teach a lot of technique, I just want to teach my kids how to bow properly and move it across the string. I am not real sure how to teach it since I learned when I was young. Please let me know which school you are from (Suzuki, Russian, French, German...?)
I had a private teacher for 13 years who taught me music theory and proper placement of my fingers and such... with the bow hand you can actually fake it a bit if you dont have exactly the right hand positioning I was always told to have the pinky on the end of the bow my middle and ring fingers had to cover the white dot on the side of the bow and my index finger was out on the bow the thumb was curved underneath at the frog of the bow... one thing you do want to make sure is that their finger hand is correctly as that hand is much more likely to get carpal tunnel if they dont hold it correctly I think I will take some pictures for you to show you what I mean because its just easier...

the pinky is most important as its where you get the most leverage for sticato and spicato..

it limits the motions you can make with your wrist and can cause sever damage to your hand especially with years of using it in that manner
