Please help with picking a Violin?!?!answer ASAP?
Here is a list. Which violin would be the best kind?
Spainhour
Gabrielli
Ottos Jos. Klier
Nicholas Parola
Heinrich Gill
Ivan Vankov
Franz Sandner
M. Minchev
Jean-Francois Lupot
or Z. Karabegovic
In case you are wondering- YES I am a Advanced violinist- and I will be performing many times. I want my money's worth. I know EVERYTHING on a violin makes it different
Those are all good makers, though I'm not familiar with three makers on the list.
But as you should be aware that while these guys made many great violins they also made a few duds.
Spainhour or Vankov might give you more bang for your buck. Newer instruments tend to be cheaper than older ones with more provenance and both often sound just as good. The only risk with newer instruments is that they may not have finished drying or setting, which may cause significant change in sound over the first 5 years you have the instrument.
A Gill or Sandner might be a good choice if you're just starting your career and intend to make another upgrade in few years.
A few of the other instruments you listed I don't know enough about to recommend one way or the other.
Keep in mind you have to actually try it out to see if that violin is a good fit for you. Just because the name on the label is good doesn't mean you'll like it. When I go to check out instruments I don't let the luthier tell me anything about the provenance of the instruments until AFTER I've decided which ones I like. It forces you to actually use your ear when picking out an instrument.
