Violin strings one note lower than what they should be?
I'm having a hard time tuning my new violin. All open strings sound to one note lower than what they should be, according to my electric tuner and my piano. G sounds like F, D sounds like C, etc. The strings look tight enough as is and I feel like if I tighten them any more they'll snap.
Any ideas? Is there something I might have done wrong? Is it possible I was given wrong strings for the violin or something?

You should check to see if the bridge is placed correctly. If it isn't it could be the source of the problem. It should be centred and tilted just slightly forward. Also, new strings need time to stretch and adjust, the time that they will take to adjust will vary with what type of strings you are using.
