do i need a special shoulder rest for this violin?

Even though they are shaped similar my guess is YES. These violins probably do not have the back plate edge that you get when the back of the violin goes over the ribs. Without that - a regular shoulder rest will not work.

You may have to use padding attached with elastic bands - they sell those too.

edit: according to this review the violin you were talking about does not have a shoulder rest or some type of support that works in that nature.
