Hello in this article I will explain to you how to buy a violin. There are many things you need to know in order to correctly buy a violin. The first is that you must go to a reputable dealer. This is probably the most important step in the whole process; try and meet the owner and staff find out if they themselves play. Buying a violin from someone who plays will go a long way to ensuring that you get a good instrument. Also remember to ask players and teachers in your area for their opinion of the shop.
If your violin teacher is willing ask them to come along to the store with you, they can give you advice on how to buy a violin. Most violinists believe that old violins are better than new ones; this belief probably comes from the legendary Stradivarius violin that sells for millions of dollars.
While it is true that an old instrument with great sound is hard to beat this shouldn't put you off from buying a new one. A new instrument will show you what it has to offer over time it will take a few months to several years to break in. When you're buying a violin don't think old versus new rather look for an instrument with clarity, projection, response and a good tone.
Next you must decide what price range you are looking for. Price range is completely subjective and once again it is a good idea to ask your teacher for advice. To one person $500 is a good enough price for a violin while to another may need to spend a few thousand dollars to get an instrument that meets their needs. Try out instruments in various price ranges until you find a range that works for you.
Many people think that they can buy a violin off of sites like eBay this is a very bad idea mainly because you can't try the violin out before you buy it also because you have no idea what you are getting. I have heard stories of people getting very poor quality instruments which cost more money to set up and repair than it would cost to buy a new instrument.
