Would spray painting a violin affect its sound?

I'm painting a friend's classical violin. And I plan to use metallic spray paint. Three colors, meaning three layers of paint. So, will that affect the sound at all?

Cuz I still want it to function like a normal violin. It still has to sound good. Cuz I think my violinist friend is joining an orchestra. I'm not going to paint it whole though. Just a couple of silver leaves and gold things... But it's still going to be a huge, epic design. And I'm not going to apply really the paint thickly.

I've been playing the violin for over 12 years, and I think painting designs is really cute on the violin, and it's fine on electric violins... but it's really not the best idea for classical violins. One of my friends painted designs on his violin too, and the sound quality became a bit stifled and a little too mellow to the sensitive ear. So, if your friend is happy with the sound quality of the violin, it would be wise to let it be.
