What's the difference between different cello strings?

I understand that cello strings are different, for the difference in tone that they produce. My question is, what are the different tones that different cello string metals such as tungsten, produce? How does it differ from steel? Is it deeper? I am interested in producing a darker deeper sound than the steel strings I have.

The difference made by tungsten core is probably as much a matter of opinion as anything. Technology makes a big difference. I use two larsen, two spirocore all with tungsten included. The metal is much harder than steel, and gives a cleaner sound.

I've also found I don't need to change strings as often, and my cello holds its pitch much better.
