When do you actually tune your violin?

I never played a violin before, but it looks fun to play. As far as I know, you tune your violin when you first purchase it. But do you have to tune it every time you play different songs?

How often do you tune any instrument? Every time you play it! The only thing 'special' (I guess) is that usually string instruments stay in tune for long periods of time (1 week-month) if it doesn't get exposed to temperature change or whatnot. Example: I played in a pit orchestra for the past three weeks and only had to tune my violin once.

With different songs, the instrument itself doesn't change but the key the music is in does.

I don't have polisher for my violin...I probably should but I just never have. No, it's not necessary. I just use a bandanna and a soft cloth to clean my violin and strings from rosin or whatnot. Not sure if you implied this but you never clean rosin from your bow, it stays on.

Never heard of cracks in bow hair...
